On August 6, 2024, we lost an extraordinary man— Michael Fox. He was much more than a business partner; he was a mentor who transformed my life and a dear friend whose impact I will carry with me forever. Michael and his wife Sandy welcomed my family and me into their home with open arms, treating us like family. Their love and support were unwavering, and they stood by me through every challenge, encouraging me to believe in myself and my vision.
Michael and his team at Matrix Associates took a chance on a blind kid from Miami—a kid who had been written off by society. They saw potential where others saw limitations, and with their guidance, I went from being a street kid to becoming the CEO of a company that changed the adaptive technology landscape. Michael’s belief in me and his commitment to accessibility fueled our mission to create tools that empowered blind individuals worldwide.
But beyond the professional, Michael was a man of deep compassion and warmth. The love he shared with Sandy was evident in everything he did, and together they built a family that extended to those of us lucky enough to be in their circle. Their home was a place of comfort, wisdom, and laughter—a sanctuary where I was always welcomed with open arms and open hearts. My deepest condolences go out to Sandy, their children Meredith and BJ, and their grandchildren Bennett, Braxton, and Kaya. Michael’s legacy lives on through them and through the countless lives he touched.
Michael was also instrumental in the establishment of the Accessibility Is A Right Foundation, an organization dedicated to advocating, teaching, and delivering tools that promote accessibility as a fundamental human right. His work with the Foundation embodied his belief that everyone, regardless of their sensory limitations or financial circumstances, deserves access to information and opportunities. His vision and leadership in this area have left an enduring impact, paving the way for greater accessibility worldwide.
While Serotek is no longer in operation, the legacy of what we built together endures. Michael’s impact on the lives of tens of thousands of blind individuals around the world is immeasurable. He was a true visionary mentor, a cherished friend, and a guiding light whose legacy will continue to inspire and empower future generations.
Thank you, Michael, for your friendship, your mentorship, and your unwavering belief in a better world. You were more than just a mentor—you were family. I will miss you dearly, but your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
