Reprinted from SeroTalk.com. So, what’s the scoop? Is SPN dying a slow death? Well, that’s what skeptics would have you believe, but thank goodness SPN is the intrepid cat that keeps coming back and feeling more than ready to rise to the challenge! Let’s start with staff changes. To that end, we’ll begin with your Serotek Communications Director. I oversee the company’s external channels. Hence, the SPN platform and its staff fall under my supervision, an excitingly daunting prospect to be sure. My philosophy for SPN moving forward is pretty straightforward: Recruit the best talent to bring you the best information you can count on. But, I am boring. Let’s move onto a couple of the people who are the real stars behind this operation. Derek Lane and Hope Povenmire are Serotek’s new Co-Content Directors. They have quickly become my trusted pilots at the helm, and our highly engaging strategy sessions make me confident you are going to be in really good hands. For everything that goes well, thank them. For anything that goes wrong, blame me. Derek in His Own Words My primary hobby and professional work have always dealt in different aspects of audio production. I learned how to run … [Read more...] about The Return of SPN
Partnership and collaboration are terms more commonly associated with social causes. Two nonprofit organizations get together, combine their efforts, and deliver better services for their beneficiaries, but at Serotek, a for-profit venture, we’re in the business of working with partners inside and outside of the assistive technology industry to provide you with awesome opportunities. You may have heard of our In It to Win It promotion. The short version is that SAMNet and Accessibility Anywhere subscribers are randomly selected to win a prize just for being subscribers. Each month we will feature a different vendor. In February the lucky winners were: Jim Fettgather Wendy David Christine Shade Each received their choice of a charm for their cane or a dog bone charm from Laura Legendary’s Elegant Insights Jewelry shop. If you’re interested in being the featured business for an upcoming month, drop us a note. It’s a great way to spread word of your products to one of the fastest growing consumers bases on the web. If you’re a current SAMNet or Accessibility Anywhere subscriber, you surely already feel like a winner. But what if your membership in the SAMNet community could be made even better, with a chance to win free stuff? We’re not going to make you write a limerick about accessibility to enter the drawing which will take place each month, though we’d no doubt find it entertaining if you did. We won’t make you write a five-paragraph essay on the merits of SAMNet voice chat, though you’re welcome to do that too. Instead, we’re making it surprisingly easy. All you have to do is be a current subscriber to a SAMNet or Accessibility Anywhere package, opt in to be eligible for promotions and giveaways, and you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win fantastic prizes from members of our own community. To do this: Access the “my account” section of your software. Choose the link to edit contact information. Check the box to be eligible for promotions and giveaways. While you’re there, be sure all your contact information is accurate so we’ll have no problems getting in touch with you when you win. The talent in our community is nothing short of amazing, and we are delighted to … [Read more...] about In it to Win it: The Easiest Contest you’ll ever enter!
At Serotek, accessibility is our bread and butter. When we jumpstarted this operation in 2002, we came to the table with our own approach to the well-known issue of expensive assistive technology. We were on fire, and never mind that all odds were stacked against us. By conventional standards Serotek Corporation should have collapsed after the first year, not just because this is true of more than 50% of all companies, but because we were the little fish swimming in a small pond with large sharks. Enough of you gave us your support and allowed us to bring to the market our own version of “affordable technology.” As we close the books on another calendar year, I am pleased to report that our story is still a bestseller. Let’s take a quick look back at some of our accomplishments. Among other things, we: Rolled out a fresh website to better serve you; Worked hard to make your experience on Windows 8, 8.1 and Office 2013 a positive experience; Continued improving System Access based on your valuable feedback and continued to provide updates with no software maintenance agreements; Introduced the new and improved >Socializer, bringing you seamless access to Twitter, Facebook, … [Read more...] about Seasons Greetings From Your Serotek Family
Hello everyone, Fall is in the air. The leaves are changing, it’s growing colder outside, and for whatever reason the combination of it all seems to prompt tech companies to release major updates to their products. I suppose curling up by the fire and downloading a new operating system for your device is one way to usher in a new season. Over the past month we’ve seen major updates including Apple’s iOS 7 and Mavericks, Microsoft’s update for Windows 8.1, as well as an announcement for a new version of Android by the end of October. As a cross-platform company with products running on each of these operating systems, Serotek has kept busy making sure everything is working perfectly with each of the new updates on the day those updates are released. With all that, we still managed to find some time to add a few features to our own products, and the good news for you is that we’ll keep on adding features and enhancements year round. Here’s just a little of what we’ve done in the past month. We’ve made it easier for you to tell your friends about Serotek products and services, and make a little money in the process. We’ve further enhanced the Serotek Socializer, adding Skypeout … [Read more...] about A Fresh Season of Updates
Curiosity may’ve killed the cat, but the satisfaction of experimenting with great features and low prices brought the beast back. That’s the fuel that’s kept the Serotek engine humming these past eleven years. There’s a reason that clichés exist, and it’s because they usually contain a lot of truth. “Time flies when you’re having fun.” I can certainly relate to that as I reflect on all that the Serotek team has accomplished recently. I’m astounded to realize I’m only in my fourth week as CEO of this company. In my first post to this community, I made some pretty bold statements when talking about my goals for Serotek, and I’m proud to say that in these past four weeks we’ve made an impressive start to accomplishing those goals. We began by concentrating our efforts on System Access, and here are just a few of the things we fixed. System Access now reads the list of email addresses available for autocompletion in Microsoft Outlook. Users can now choose from the list of email accounts in Microsoft Outlook from which to send a new message. Enhanced the "Some" punctuation level to speak the Equal and Asterisk symbols. Fixed a bug where the Eloquence speech synthesizer would … [Read more...] about Truth in Cliches
July 1 marks one year since Serotek unveiled its most ambitious disruption to the assistive technology market. Other companies develop singular products and pitch them to the consumer base as standalone products. Well, we do the same, because we understand you want to choose what goes into your toolbox, but we also understand the limits on your wallet. Unlike our fellow peers, we do something about it. So our team went to the drawing board. Reliable screen reader? Check. Outstanding document scanner? Check. Instant access to information and entertainment? Check. System Access, DocuScan Plus, and SAMNet have each resonated with the community all on their own, but what if we wrapped these up into the never-before-seen price of $21.95 a month? Click here for all the details. So, where are we as we raise our glass to celebrate the first birthday of this dynamic package? Windows 8 Compatibility “Well, duh,” you might think to yourself. “Everyone’s doing something with Windows 8.” Yet, the truth is Windows 7 is now the most popular operating system in the world. People are choosing to stay put rather than upgrade to the latest OS, and as a small company we could have chosen to use that … [Read more...] about Accessibility Anywhere Turns One
