Breaking Ground at Pneuma Solutions

Mike Calvo • December 1, 2020

Exciting developments are coming to the blindness community, and it’s time to share them with you.

Some of what you’re about to read will become obvious why we’ve waited until now to make a formal announcement. Others are a natural progression of our vision for accessibility.

Goodbye Serotek, thank you for your service.

Many years ago, I had a vision to make accessibility both affordable, and portable. From that, I founded Pneuma Solutions’ predecessor, Serotek Corporation, the first and only company pioneering multi-platform, cloud-based accessibility solutions for blind and print disabled consumers. You can read more about Serotek’s historical role in our about page.

For nearly two decades, Serotek developed cloud-based products and resources no one else provided. But, as cloud-based technology matured, so has the vision for powerful accessible products for the commercial, municipal, governmental, and educational markets.

As technology advanced, Serotek’s corporate structure was being outpaced by the demands of the larger plan.

Providing accessible cloud-based solutions at the consumer computer level was no longer enough. We knew we could take accessibility to the network and intranet level, achieving it long before it ever reaches a consumer’s computer screen.

Pneuma Solutions and Scribe logos

Pneuma Solutions successfully met that milestone earlier this year.

Using our own Augmented Document Remediation technology, we broke ground on the next generation of equal access. We call it: Scribe.

With the cloud-based technology available to us and a little hard work, the possibilities for new applications for accessibility have become abundant. Very soon, Pneuma Solutions will be the first company offering another one-of-a-kind accessible product well suited fore today’s virtual environment.

Plus, we have additional products in the pipeline designed to continue reshaping the way we do business.

Things are on the move at Pneuma Solutions. And so with that, we salute Serotek and its fantastic development team throughout the years for a job well done.

That brings us to another big announcement.

Matt Campbell, Chief Technology Officer and Cofounder

The Return of Matt Campbell

If you’re familiar with Serotek, you may know for many years Matt Campbell was the lead developer, breathing life into Serotek products and resources. In 2017 Matt took on a full-time role within Microsoft’s accessibility development team, where he made a number of valuable contributions.

We’re happy to announce, as of November 15, 2020, Matt has joined the team at Pneuma Solutions.

But, his full-time return gets even more exciting, because …

Matt joins Pneuma Solutions as cofounder and Chief Technology Officer.

That’s right, Matt has joined me, Mike Calvo, as a cofounder of Pneuma Solutions.

Matt says: “As a visually impaired person myself, I believe in products developed for us, by us. What excites me most about my new role is that I have not only a voice, but the opportunity to make the product development decisions that are best for our community.”

This huge decision on both our parts speaks to the confidence we have in our joint plans for Pneuma Solutions, taking cloud-based accessibility where it has never gone before.

With Matt on board as cofounder and CTO, it builds on our successful long-time relationship developing accessible solutions for blind and print disabled individuals.

It allows me to expand my role of imagining and exploring new accessible cloud-based applications, and the integration of machine learning technology.

And with Matt’s vast experience and talent leading the development of what we have already imagined, and what we have yet to discover, the future for accessibility is pretty exciting.

Now, if you’re a former customer of Serotek, you’re probably as enthused as I am about this news,

But, you may have questions like…

What about access to products I’ve purchased from Serotek?

If you are a Serotek customer, you have nothing to worry about. All Serotek product licenses and subscriptions will be carried over to Pneuma Solutions and honored without interruption. The transition has been seamless. Not only will your favorite products and services continue, but we’ve got improvements to Sero and DocuScan Plus in development. Watch for those announcements coming in 2021.

If you haven’t been a former customer of Serotek, but still want to enjoy the easy-to-use products we carried over, I’ve got good news for you too.

You can  find them right here on our product page.

Matt and I both look forward to building on the role Pneuma Solutions has already established as the global leader in accessible cloud-based solutions. We promised you the best was yet to come. Today, we are proud to announce that best is only getting started.
