The following is being posted in the interest of clarification and transparency:
We at Pneuma Solutions operate a document remediation platform called Scribe for Documents, often additionally referred to as scribeit.io (its main website address). If you are a visually impaired iPhone user, you may have also ran into an app called ScribeMe, which is a mobile application performing similar functionality. The existence of an ap with similar functionality and a confusingly similar title has led to confusion among many users. In light of this, we offer the following clarifications for you, our current and future users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an effort to minimize confusion for users, we reached out to ScribeMe’s main developer, Mr. Mark Morad, in August of 2024. Our only ask was that the application adopt an identity that is not similar to the Scribe name, so as not to cause confusion among users. We’ve yet to receive a response, and as such are reaching out with the following email. We are posting this in the interest of transparency:
Dear Mr. Morad and ScribeMe Team:
I am writing on behalf of Pneuma Solutions regarding our prior notice sent in August 2024 concerning the use of the name \u201cScribeMe.\u201d
First, I want to be clear about something important. We recognize and respect the work you are doing. We understand that ScribeMe was built from personal experience, and as blind people ourselves, we know how much these tools can mean to the community. Pneuma Solutions is not looking to create unnecessary conflict in the accessibility space. We believe there should be more innovation, not less.
That said, we also have a responsibility to protect the brand, reputation, and customer trust Pneuma Solutions has built over many years.
Pneuma Solutions owns and has continuously used the common law trademark \u201cScribe for Documents\u201d since 2019 in connection with accessibility, OCR, document conversion, AI-powered document processing, and services for blind and visually impaired users.
Since our original notice, we have continued to observe increasing overlap and actual marketplace confusion between Scribe for Documents and ScribeMe. This confusion is driven not only by the similarity of the names themselves, but also by the fact that both products operate in substantially overlapping areas involving accessible PDF workflows, OCR, PowerPoint accessibility, image descriptions, AI-powered document analysis, and services directed toward blind and visually impaired users.

We are also aware of your recent public statements regarding ScribeMe\u2019s removal from the App Store and subsequent return. To avoid any misunderstanding, we want to make clear that Pneuma Solutions did not take that action. However, we do believe we have standing to pursue trademark and platform enforcement remedies across major app marketplaces, including Apple, Google, and Microsoft, if this matter cannot be resolved cooperatively.
That is not our preferred path.
We would much rather give you a fair and reasonable opportunity to transition your users to a new brand name without disrupting the people who rely on your product.
Accordingly, Pneuma Solutions proposes the following resolution:
Within 30 days of receipt of this letter, ScribeMe will publicly announce a transition to a new product and company name that does not incorporate \u201cScribe\u201d or any confusingly similar variation in the accessibility, OCR, document-processing, PDF, PowerPoint, image-description, or AI accessibility markets.
Following that public announcement, ScribeMe will have an additional 30 days to complete the transition of its branding, websites, app listings, social media accounts, promotional materials, customer communications, and related public-facing references to the new name.
During the transition period, ScribeMe will not expand marketing, partnerships, advertising campaigns, or new product launches under the existing ScribeMe name.
At the end of the transition period, ScribeMe will retire use of the ScribeMe name in connection with accessibility, OCR, document-processing, PDF, PowerPoint, image-description, and AI accessibility services.
This proposal is intended to give your team a practical path forward while protecting Pneuma Solutions from ongoing market confusion.
We come to this in good faith. We applaud the goal of helping blind and visually impaired people access information more independently. We also believe that peace within the accessibility community is worth preserving. But preserving peace cannot mean allowing continued confusion around a brand Pneuma Solutions has invested in and used for years.
Please provide written confirmation within 10 business days that you are willing to proceed with this transition plan.
If we do not receive a satisfactory response, Pneuma Solutions will evaluate all available enforcement options, including formal trademark action, platform complaints, and other remedies necessary to protect its brand and prevent further confusion in the marketplace.
